Shirley Jean Wilson Poteet, 72, of Lafollette, Tennessee, passed away on October 15, 2012 at home. Shirley had been a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of LaFollette, where she served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, Awana leader and longtime choir member. Shirley loved her church and church family.

Shirley was born January 19, 1940 in Speedwell, TN. She attended Powell Valley High School and Lincoln Memorial University. When she and her husband, Arnold Poteet were married they moved to Lafollette. Shirley worked at Ben Rogers Insurance Agency for over 40 yrs.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Clay Wilson; her sisters, Fayetta Wilson and Susie Aileen Wilson Davis.

Survivors include: loving husband of 53 years, Arnold Poteet; daughter Donna Renee Robinson and husband Michael of Jacksboro, son Anthony Wayne Poteet and wife Angie of LaFollette, much loved grandsons, Dustin May and wife Amanda of Clinton, Russell May of Oak Ridge, Chris Poteet of Lafollette and Corey Poteet of Lafollette; great-grandchildren Sydney and Corryn May; mother, Minnie Bean Wilson of Lafollette sister, Betty Lucretia Wilson Parks of Knoxville and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at LaFollette First Baptist Church. The funeral will immediately follow the receiving of friends and be officiated by Dr. Duane Mills.  Family and friends will meet Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Walters Funeral Home and proceed to Powell Valley Cemetery, located on Henson Road in LaFollette, for 11 A.M. graveside services and interment.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be contributed to LaFollette First Baptist Church, 255 West Central Avenue, LaFollette, TN 37766. Virgil Ward, age 77 of Caryville, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2012 at North Knoxville Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1935 in Anderson County to the late Haskell and Elizabeth Braden Ward.  Virgil enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and tinkering with watches. In addition to his parents, Virgil is preceded in death by: his sons, Virgil Wayne Ward and Josh Ward, brother, Earnest Ward, and his two sisters, Bertha Jones, and Alice Fugate.
