Terry Lee Phillips, age 55, of Caryville passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012. He was a member of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. He was a very loving son and brother that enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old vehicles, raising Fiest hunting dogs, and working on heavy equipment.



Preceded in death by his mother Glennis (Carroll) Phillips.



Survived by his father Jay Will Phillips, brothers Gary Phillips & wife Karen, Roger Phillips & wife Lisa, and Jerry Phillips & wife Debra all of Stoney Fork, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, & friends.



Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2012 in the Martin Wilson Chapel from 6:00 – 7:45 pm. Masonic service will follow the visitation at 7:45 pm. Funeral service will be on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church with Rev James Adkins & Rev Thomas Adkins officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Phillips Cemetery.

Mr. Edgar Hunter, age 88 of Pioneer, TN passed away Friday, September 28, 2012, at James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center in Mountain Home, TN.  He was a highly decorated WWII U.S. Army Veteran, recipient of a purple heart, bronze star and numerous other military awards and decorations.  He was preceded in death by daughters, Diane and Kimberly, parents, Tom and Florida Isaac Hunter, grandson, Rodney Norman, sister, Edith Byrd, step daughters, Connie Hamblin and Joan Caldwell, son-in-law, Bob Norman.



Survivors:  Wife, Clara Hunter of Pioneer; children, Larry Hunter and wife, Brenda, Jeff Hunter, and Margie Norman all of Ohio; stepchildren, Kerrie Silcox and Donald Caldwell; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.   Several other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Lisa Lee Carroll Rose, age 45 of LaFollette passed away Friday, September 28, 2012, at LaFollette Medical Center.



Survivors:   Husband, Charles Matthew “Matt” Rose of LaFollette; daughters, Ashley Rose of Newcomb and Angie Rose of Clinton; two grandchildren, Preston and Payton; father, Bobby Jack Carroll; mother, Lula Mae Jones Carroll; sister, Beth Marie Carroll; and brother, Robbie Carroll all of LaFollette.  Several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Thelma M. Tackett 

Thelma M. Tackett age 88, of Lake City, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Summit View Health Care Center of Lake City. Thelma was born March 15, 1924, in Stinking Creek, TN to the late Alex and Viola Meredith Lay. She was a member of the Willow Brook Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends..  In addition to her parents, Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie M. Tackett, her brothers, Frank and William Lay, and her sister, Pauline Carroll.

Shirley J. Pemberton

Shirley J. Pemberton, age 77, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Briarcliff Health Care Center. Shirley was born January 27, 1935 in Anderson County, Tn. to the late Paul Elmer and Anna Brown Burress. She was a member of the Longfield Baptist Church.  She enjoyed watching television and spending time with family and friends.  In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her son, Michael Pemberton, her husband, Don Pemberton, and her brother, Gary Burress.

Flora H. Tackett

Flora H. Tackett “Mommie Flora,” of Caryville passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Golden Living in Clinton.  She was born July 26, 1920 to John and Belle Hunley.  Flora graduated from the University of Tennessee with a master’s degree in education.  She taught in the Campbell County Schools for more than 30 years. She was also a Supervisor of Special Education before her retirement in 1982.  She was a Charter Member of Central Baptist Church, where she was the pianist, a Sunday School teacher and taught Bible School in area churches for many years.  She was a Charter member of Caryville Eastern Star Chapter 415, as well as, an active member and past matron, and secretary.  She served as Ruth in the grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

Preceded in death by parents; husband of 62 years, Ova Tackett; son-in-law, T. C. Watson, brothers & sisters-in-laws, F.A. & Trudy Hunley, Robert Thorton & Nancy Hunley; sister & brothers-in-law, Mary Williams-Cox, Robert Williams & Lawrence Cox; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Boyd & Dorothy Tackett.

Dewey Partin age 87,of Lafollette, Tn. passed away September 26,2012 in the Methodist
Medical Center in Oak Ridge,Tn. He was born in Chenoa ,Ky on April 16,1925, He was the
Son of the late Chester Partin and Angeline Maiden Partin. In addition to his parents, he
Was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Partin, Daughter, Vickie Partin, 3 sisters, Zella Miracle,
Gladys Penley, Thelma Jones. Mr. Partin was a member of the Independent Baptist Church in LafolletteTn.
Survivors include his son, David Wayne Partin of LafolletteTn.  Grandson, Mark Partin of
LafolletteTn. Four sisters, Verda Collins, Bessie Partin, Ruby Smith, Margie Cobb. And a
Host of Neices and Nephews and other Relatives and friends.

Gertrude “Trudy” Hunley, age 87, of Alabama, formerly of Caryville passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 in Kennesaw, Georgia.   Trudy was living at Star Manor Assisted Living, but had recently been moved to Daybreak Village Assisted Living, where she passed while surrounded by her loving family.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend that will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

John Michael Cooper

Mr. John Michael Cooper, age 73 of LaFollette, was called to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, September 23, 2012.  Mr. Cooper enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1962 and served actively as a SFC Radio Operator, until 1964.  John re-enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and served his beloved country for 20 years.  In 2006 John joined the Campbell County Honor Guard where he served as Guard Vice Commander.  John retired from the State of Tennessee in 2006 after 40 years of employment.  He is preceded in death by mother, Cleo Card Cooper, father, Chester “Chet” Cooper, sisters-in-law, Kathy Cooper and Deborah Jones Miller, and nephew, Dan Cooper.

He is survived by wife, Martha Lee Jones Cooper; daughter, Pam Cooper Fekete and husband, Paul; son, Michael Cooper; step-children, Lakean Wilson, Joni Seiber, and Johnny Mack Seiber and wife, Janet; grandchildren, Whitney Cooper, Eli Cooper, Blake Cooper, Tyler Cooper, Tanner Seiber, Cooper Jack Seiber, Nicholas Fekete, Jessica Fekete, and Brittany Fekete; three brothers, Richard Cooper, Dan Cooper, and Ben Cooper and wife, Billie; mother-in-law, Cleda Jones.  John is survived by his special friends, Alvin Carmany, Larry Slover, James “Jay” Ayers, and Ralph Smith.  Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viola Goodman

Viola Goodman age 76 of Lake City , TN passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at her residence. Viola was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was a native of Long Hollow in Lafollette, TN. Viola was a faithful Christian  and was a member of Long Hollow Baptist Church in Lafollette, TN. She had a voice of an angel and enjoyed traveling to many other churches to sing for the Lord. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton Alex & Annie Wilson; husband, Walter Goodman; son, Wayne Goodman; sister, Artella Bolton; brother, George Alex Wilson; and step mother, Ruth Wilson.

Mr. Ralph Edward King age 64 of LaFollette passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012, at his home. He was a Member, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Janitor at Long Hollow Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. Preceded in death by father, Dewey King, brother, Wayne “Dewey” King.

Foster Nelson, 61, of LaFollette passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2012. He enjoyed farming, buying cattle, gardening, and he loved his family and the Lord very much. 
Preceded in death by his father Henry Junior Nelson, wife Janey Nelson, and brother Virgil Eugene White. 
Survived by his mother Beatrice Nelson of LaFollette, brother Don Nelson of Knoxville, sisters Bonnie Jordan of LaFollette and Wanda Terry of Caryville, several nieces & nephews, and a host of other relatives & friends. 
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the Martin Wilson Chapel. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 8:00 pm with Rev Jimmy Griffith officiating. Interment will be on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Sunrise Cemetery.

Delmus Gaylor, age 92, of Jacksboro passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012.  A member of Lake View Baptist Church, WWII Army veteran, Purple Heart recipient, a 50 year member of Jacksboro Masonic Lodge and retired Security Guard of DOE in Oak Ridge.  Preceded in death by wife, Nannie Belle Gaylor; parents, Charlie & Gracie Hunter Gaylor.

She was born October 18, 1925, in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late James Earl and Ester Sharp Harness. Lillian was a member of Mountain View Missionary Baptist Church. She loved fishing, going to yard sales, and spending time with her beloved family and friends. In addition to her parents, Lillian is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Arnold Sharp, and her brother, Charles Harness.

Mary Sue Smith, age 72 of Lake City, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2012. She was born July 1, 1940 in Hamblen CountyTennessee to the late Clarence and Verna Ruth Haun Ketner. Mary was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. She loved sewing, working outside with her flowers, arts and crafts. Mary also loved spending time with her family and friends, and going to church. Mr. Ronald Lewis Byrd age 64 of LaFollette passed away Monday, September 17, 2012 at his home. Ronald was born December 20, 1947 in Campbell Co. He worked at Western Auto for many years and was owner and operator of Byrd’s Wrecker Service. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Byrd and Cleda Byrd Sumner, step-father, Lauzy Sumner, grandparents, Herbert and Elmina Byrd.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 27 years, Pernie Byrd; Sons, Robert Nathaniel Byrd, and Ronnie Lewis Byrd, III, all of LaFollette; Step-son, Travis Stanley of Jacksboro; Sister and Brother-in-law, Helen Sue and Sterling Marlar, of LaFollette; Mother-in-law, Delphy Rutherford of Jellico; Several aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends to mourn his passing.
