WILLIAMS, JANE CROUCH - a prominent member of both the Seymour and LaFollette communities and a clinical social worker beloved by patients, friends and family alike as "Mama Jane," died Monday, January 16th, of complications of a heart condition. Mrs. Williams, the daughter of noted Smoky Mountains naturalist and Knoxville florist Brockway Crouch and Elsie Crouch, was 80. Mrs. Williams brought her irrepressible compassion, generosity and service to others to her role as a clinical supervisor for Ridgeview Psychiatric Mental Services in Lafollette, where she worked to help her clients reenter society. For many years, Mrs. Williams lived in Seymour, where her former husband, the late Dr. James B. Bell, conducted his family medical practice. She was a fixture at Seymour High School community and athletic events, many of which featured the couple's four children. Mrs. Williams returned to school in mid-life, graduating at 54 from the University of Tennessee with highest honors, and a chancellor's citation for extraordinary professional promise. She was also a first-rate genealogist, providing hefty volumes of research to family and friends. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, First Families of Tennessee and a 50-year member of the East Tennessee Historical Society, Knoxville. Mrs. Williams lived her faith in Christ, demonstrating love to those whom she counseled, and often helped her pastor in ministering to hurting families and individuals. She faithfully served in churches where she took up residence, including Jacksboro United Methodist Church.
